The Huff Post on Jamie Shupak and Brian Stelter's NYC DIY Apartment

my friend, Jamie and i sat in her new apartment over chips and guacamole just weeks before i moved to brainstorm ideas on how to fill their lovely new space with inexpensive and unique details.
Jamie and her boyfriend, Brian, wanted their first home together to be comfortable and great for entertaining.
The Huffington Post paid them a visit this week to document their DIY projects.
Jamie referenced one of my previous blog posts on DIY white washed mirrors to DIY her own mirror and the Huff Post added the link to their article.  whoop!

below, i have highlighted some of the ideas we came up with for you to consider in your own home...
this shot gives you a glimpse of their half-painted wall in the long hallway right as you walk in.  the hallway is narrow and the ceilings are very high, so painting the wall only a few feet up adds detail that takes up zero space.
jamie also painted an accent chalkboard wall behind their dining area to separate the area from the rest of the living room.  she also used a reclaimed piece of wood and plumbing pipping to make the table above.
jamie made this lamp a few years ago after finding an identical one that was super pricey.  a trip to the hardware store supplied her with everything she needed to duplicate the piece for under $100.
she painted the bright silver legs of brian's desk and paired mix-matched chairs to create their dining room table.

jamie had the legs cut off of an industrial restaurant table to use as their coffee table.
here, jamie used plumbing pipping and stained wood for their entertainment area.

with a little time and creative ideas, options are endless for making inexpensive, unique pieces.
