kim hastreiter is inspiring sb

i just got back from a quick work trip to boston that was more than great.
we, the creatives behind the products of converse, gathered together for the day to meet a few very talented and accomplished people.
to get inspired.
my favorite speaker? kim hastreiter.
she's one of those people you want to follow around. or have a dinner with and just listen for hours at all of her amazing stories and not say a word because you wonder what you've been doing for the past...29 years. my stories don't quite stack up.
so inspiring.
she realized years ago that creative people need their own source of news and didn't have their own voice. so she started PAPER magazine out of her NYC apt in 1984. she has spent her career putting creative people in the same room with other equally talented people. which means she's responsible for many great things that have happened in art and fashion over the past 25 years.
thank you, kim, for meeting with us.
you've inspired a new level of drive inside sb.

happy birthday to me

my (early) birthday present to myself:

iii love it.
this bag is definitely going to get a lot of wear.
it's made completely of vintage military canvas, leather belts, and straps. they are all one of a kind and a great way to refashion vintage military for women and men.
the line is called GGE Restorations. or at least i think so. the label inside is vague and mentions that the bags are distributed only through word of mouth.
the store alone that carries this bag is also amazing.
check it out:
138 west 10th street.

!!!

sorry for the lack of posts. my daily commitment during the week hasn't been something i've been able to follow through with recently. :/
i will say that i had a great time in california...and i am proudly and officially a resident of new york.
(i can't call myself a "new yorker" for 3 more years, right? 10 total?)
anyway, before i show everyone the new place, i have a few more things to do.
in the meantime, enjoy these small ditzy florals i've been loving lately. along with anything sheer and flowing. these girls look adorable..

DIY white washed mirror

after my stay at the surf lodge.. i've been loving the white washed/sun faded/sandy beach cabin look.
so i'm bringing elements into my home.
my friend showed me how to white wash my giant ikea mirror, so now i'm sharing with you... it was super easy.
if it's made of wood, white wash it!

you will need:
plastic tarp
paint tray
paint brush (the older & crunchier. the better.)
white paint or primer (i used primer)
water
masking or painting tape
sandpaper

step 1 - clean & sand the wood surface. be sure to put down plastic to avoid any splatters or spills
step 2 - if your piece has parts that you don't want to paint, apply tape along edges to keep things neat
step 3 - mix a small amount of equal parts paint & water in the painting tray
step 4 - brush thin layers in one direction onto wood
step 5 - let dry & apply one more layer
step 6 - sand along any edges to get an even more weathered look

the sketchbook project

i am eagerly awaiting my blank sketchbook's arrival.
the theme i chose for my sketchbook will be "jackets, blankets, and sheets".
once i finish and send the sketchbook back, it will tour around the country.
everything in the book will be sketches and such that relate back to this blog.
the sketchbook will also be digitized and images will be added to this site as soon as i get them.
i'll keep you guys posted on how it's going and even offer sneak peaks.
this is a great idea and i encourage you to sign up yourself if you feel inspired to do so...so click on the pic below..

west coast love

i've had a great time (LA traffic being the exception) in cali this week.
but unfortunately didn't take a single picture.
loved the blue water. flea markets. comfortable style. sweet sheer prints. and flowing dresses. and of course.. the food.
